Gordon-Levitt: Holy internet speculation, Batman!

According to Deadline, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks with producers to appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

The young actor has previously appeared in the director’s blockbuster Inception, which is currently in fierce competition in the major Academy Awards categories.

As previously discussed at Beehive City, Nolan is apt to working with the same actors over several projects.  This weekend saw speculation that Insomnia actor Robin Williams would join the project as Professor Hugo Strange.

Gordon-Levitt has been subject to frequent rumours linking him to the third Batman film, but until now all talk of his involvement was purely fanboy speculation.

While it is unknown at this juncture what role he is being considered for, internet speculation strongly links him to The Riddler role, with Strange coming a close second.

If rumours surrounding Williams are to be believed, then Strange is out and The Riddler would add a fourth villain to The Dark Knight Rises already plump bad guy list.

This leads me to speculate, could Gordon-Levitt, star of Brick and (500) Days of Summer, be the new Robin?  He played the sidekick so well in Inception that it would be hard, now his name surfaces, to imagine anyone else in the Dick Grayson role.

Already confirmed are Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy (Gordon-Levitt’s Inception co-star) in the roles of Selina Kyle / Catwoman and Bane respectively.

Casting talks are ongoing at this point, but with The Dark Knight Rises scheduled to start production in May, all roles should be confirmed soon…
