Eminem will reach his billionth view on video sharing site YouTube today, becoming the third person in history to achieve this milestone. According to Famecount.com, the social media statistics service, the rapper’s channel had over 999 million views at 9am GMT and is expected to have already reached the billion views milestone by noon.
The US rapper is only the third individual in history to make this key digital milestone, after Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber each achieved one billion views at the end of last year. Bieber overtook GaGa to gain the YouTube crown and remains there, currently with over 1.3 billion views on his official YouTube channel.
Eminem has seen his social media fame rocket following the release of his Recovery album last year. As well as his third place on YouTube, he is the second most popular living star on Facebook, where he is closing fast on Lady GaGa. GaGa retains a huge lead over all rivals on Twitter.
Recent figures suggest that the rapper is catching Lady GaGa by 26 million views every month, meaning Eminem will beat GaGa to the second spot by the end of the year. But GaGa has just returned with a new single and with an album to follow, she may find herself with another surge in views.
Famecount.com statistics also show that Rihanna is on the rise, and the singer is set to become the fourth YouTube billionaire at some point next week.
On an aggregated basis Famecount.com ranks Eminem the third most popular star on social media, just behind Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
