Already in the news today becuase of the BAFTA Video Game Awards last night,  British retail giant GAME has announced a new venture that will see a huge video games event taking place at the NEC in Birmingham.

Christened ‘Gamefest’ today by GAME’s managing director Martin Gibbs, the event will take place between the 16th and 18th September this year.

Gibbs used the platform of last night’s awards ceremony to reveal the retailer’s plans for the show, which presumably already has the backing of the major publishers, most of whom have strong relationships with the retailer.  The MD assured the press that the event “is not a money spinning venture”.

The show will be an extension of the retailer’s store manager conference, website MVC revealed, and entry will be reserved exclusively for Reward Card customers.

Details of the event, including how to obtain tickets, will be released in the coming weeks.
