Trinny and Susannah, remember them? Yep, those women who told us What Not What to Wear before moving to ITV and then disappearing off the face of the planet … well, they’re back … but not quite as you might expect them.
The fashion gurus have given up their in your face sartorial snobbery (more through necessity than choice one might speculate) and have taken to the smallest screen (the Internet) with a new mockumentary that charts their lives after the bubble burst.
Sounds rubbish doesn’t it? Well, it’s not.
The self deprecating humour and hopelessness of the show has shades of The Office, Flight of the Conchords (without the songs), Curb Your Enthusiasm and Absolutely Fabulous combined. Although it isn’t in the same league (yet) as these behemoths of comedic torture, it’s certainly a witty and entertaining watch.
Trinny and Susannah have in this fictional world (which I’m sure is uncomfortably close to their real situation) reached their lowest ebb. They need money and crave publicity and in this rather novel 16 part series of 6 minute micro-features, we get to go along for the ride. It’s a brave bold move, but it might just work and get the ladies back on the telly at some point soon … either as themselves or as their ‘fictional’ alter-egos.
