The language barrier strikes again
Last week this jumpin’ dance mash-up rose from number two in the UK charts to hit the top spot. Whether it can hang on in there remains to be seen, but one thing there’s no doubt about, this is a certfied YouTube music video hit, receiving almost five million views in the past month since it went online.
The song, We No Speak Americano, is the handywork of Australian dance music duo Yolanda Be Cool and was produced by DCUP. The song is comprised of samples from the 1956 song Tu vuò fà l’americano by Renato Carosone, which he wrote along with Nicola Salerno.
This tune has done well across Europe in the charts, reaching the top spot in Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, and the Netherlands as well as the UK.
Sadly the dance duo missed out on pole position in their native Australian charts, where the song peaked at number 4 – oh well, there’s always the next hit, eh?
