Reading like a Premier League top four, or a list of favourites at Ascot races, this years Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival headline announcement includes:
Kings Of Leon, Kanye West, The Strokes and Arcade Fire (said to be planning a UK headline Hyde Park show on June 30) . All are certainly big hitters, but does this years top bill line-up lack a bit of heart?
Fans of the mid-April festival (which takes place in Indio, California, now in it’s 12th year) had been enjoying the usual jostling of who might be playing, with the headline rumour mill featuring the likes of The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk and Lady Ga Ga.
What was confirmed are certainly worthy but somewhat much more predictable headliners, many of which have played the festival before in recent years.
“Dear Coachella WTF happened to Daft Punk?! I wanted to get my Tron on! Needless to say, I’ll still be there w/glowstixxxs.” — Katy Perry
However if we scratch beyond the headline surface Coachella 2011 still has the ability to appeal to the more eclectic festival goer. PJ Harvey’s decision to grace the festival is sure to be a highlight, her uniquness has not been diluted over the years and new album in the offering ‘Let England Shake’ is being touted as another gem in her catalogue.
