The multi-talented Mark Ronson was lucky to be at V Festival this weekend. The producer and musician found himself and his band in the middle of the stage collapse that killed five people and injured countless others at Belgium’s Pukkelpop Festival.
Speaking to Absolute Radio at Hylands Park, Mark Ronson describes the scenes of carnage that saw the tent structure collapsing around him under high winds:
“I looked up at the roof of the tent… and it just looked like the Hand of God came down and ripped the top off. It just flew up and then once that went all the poles just collapsed on themselves,” recounted the star.
Ronson saw the lighting rigs swinging into The Smith Westons, the band on stage, who luckily escaped uninjured, as did Ronson and his cohort. “Luckily we made it out with a few scratches and bruises,” said the 35-year-old.
The continued danger of high winds and loss of life at Hasselt led to Pukkelpop’s cancellation. “It’s so sad that people had to die and get injured,” said Ronson of the tragedy.
