So, that’s it, another Hard Rock Calling finished … we’ll see you all again in the royal park for another helping of first class music again next year.

Tonight, Paul McCartney cheered 50,000 England fans up with a storming performance of classic Beatles hits and a mixture of work from his solo back catalogue.

From Paperback Writer to Day Tripper, Hey Jude to a Day in the Life, all the hits were there, and the crowd lapped them up for more than two and a half hours on a suitably sunny and warm evening, it couldn’t have been more perfect for Macca or the punters.

Macca took the time to pay tribute to his late friends John Lennon and George Harrison, playing a song for each of them including a ukulele led version of the seminal Harrison hit Something.

If you weren’t lucky enough to have been at this grade a exhibition of rock ‘n’ roll, we managed to snatch a few photos that give you a flavour of the evening.

Enter the legend

He's warming up ... and so are the crowd

In good voice tonight

The audience enjoy the music whilst Mother Nature adds her own magic

It's dark now and he's taking the music up a gear

Yeah, now we're rockin'

Someone came prepared!

Live and Let Die = explosions

and a few more ... job done!

just like the 60′s and 70′s a special time where many bands were into impressing audiences with inspirational possiblity – intuition of a better world… the beatles heralded that time – if you think “special” and “amazing” when you perform or write a song – it often takes the music there….
