Radiohead's new album 'The King of Limbs'

Radiohead have today announced that their new album will be released on Saturday 19th February.

The band’s latest album, titled ‘The King of Limbs’ will be available as a download from Saturday. It will be available to order through dedicated website thekingoflimbs.com.  The download is available in both mp3 and wav formats.

A physical release will follow on 9th May as what the band are describing as “the world’s first* newspaper album (*perhaps).”

Those who order this  “newspaper album” package will receive ‘The King of Limbs’ on CD, two 10-inch vinyl records and artwork sheets. The purchase will also include the album as a download on Saturday.

The album is the band’s first release since 2007′s ‘In Rainbows’, which was released under a unique pay-what-you-like model as a download before a physical release later followed.

This new announcement show that Radiohead are again blazing trails with digital marketing, and the announcement has been taken up readily by major media outlets and social networking websites (with the album name already trending on Twitter less than 30 minutes after the band’s post).

By again bucking the music industry trend, Radiohead have shown that established artists don’t need huge promotional campaigns to release their albums…
