Double Brit Award winner Tinie Tempah has confirmed that he will make his T in the Park debut this summer. The rapper will perform at the Balado-based festival in July in front of 85,000 music fans.
Tinie will appear alongside rock acts My Chemical Romance, Foo Fighters and Blink 182 at the event. But the rapper, 22, will make his festival debut on the Isle of Wight in June before performing at the Wireless festival in Hyde Park in July.
The inclusion of Tinie Tempah on the bill shows that festival bosses realise the huge influence urban artists are having over the British music industry. His double success at last week’s Brit Awards caps an impressive year for the star in which he has seen a meteoric rise from promising newcomer to best-selling artist.
His Best Breakthrough and Best Single wins saw a surge in sales of his album Disc-Overy, which promptly reappeared in the Top 10 almost six months after release.
With every date on his UK tour (which includes a stop in Glasgow tonight) sold out, fans will be glad to see Tinie heading out to festivals this summer.
T in the Park should have a special meaning for the rapper, as he follows his hero and last year’s headliner Eminem onto the Scottish stage.
The Londoner, real name Patrick Okogwu, told The Sun newspaper: “I was so excited when Eminem was headlining and now I’m playing.
“I’m really looking forward to it – we’re going to make it crazy. It’ll set me up for the year ahead – I’m already working on the second album, so bring it on.”
T in the Park 2011 officially launches at 11am GMT today, when more news of acts should be revealed here.
