Goodbye old friend

Pint-sized Canadian popstar Justin Bieber is making waves in the Twittersphere this morning after Paramount Pictures released a trailer for his upcoming bio-pic.

Yes, that’s right, next February fans will be able to see the ‘struggles’ that the 16-year-old has been through to get to the top of his game … and what’s more it’s in 3D … like everything these days, even real life.

Entitled Never Say Never, the trailer is a celebration of the human spirit, reminding us we must never give up on our dreams … however old we get … that’s right, if you’re 15 and still trying to break into the music industry, there’s still a chance.

‘They said it would never happen, they said he would never make it … but YOU never stopped believing’ … and now YOU’VE reaped what you sowed.

Of course Bieber online is a phenomenon matched only by the might of Lady Gaga, so the hashtag #neversaynever3D has rapidly ascended to the the number one Twitter trend today, largely fuelled by adoring fans watching the trailer (which you can see here) again and again.

However, as always, not everyone has nice things to say about the youngster, as perennial  Twitter cynic Lord_Voldermort7 (I don’t know what the other 6 are up to) proves with his rather witty and astute point: ‘Bieber’s movie’ll be in 3D? So it’ll seem like he’s in front of you, but you can’t hit him? It’s like a nightmare!’

Elsewhere, the news that the Sony Walkman will no longer be made has been attracting attention in the Twittersphere for a couple of days now.

Yes, that’s right, although no one has bought a cassette in over a decade, little did you now, Sony have been plugging away all these years producing Walkman’s still, presumably exclusively for museums and landfill … well, it’s over, Sony have said enough is enough … they need more time to concentrate on their new ranges such as portable laserdisc players, 8-Track players, minidiscs and the quite revolutionary portable LP player.

Richardroeper summed up what we were all thinking when he said: ‘Sony announces it will no longer make Walkman cassette players. In other news, Sony was still making Walkman cassette players?’ and DjinnieUK struck a chord with my childhood when he Tweeted: ‘I always wanted a Walkman and all I ever got was portable cassette players, much like those kids with shitty mp3 players who ask for an ipod’

RIP Walkman … you would be missed … if it was 1995.

And finally, talking about 1995, that was the last time #takethat toured together as a five piece.

The band has captured the imagination of the micro-bloggers today as tour details have been released for the band’s stadium extravaganza in 2011 … and yes Robbie Williams is on board, I can hardly wait.

Those looking for a pop-fix in the UK that is not owned and managed by the X Factor are happily discussing how early they will be getting up on Friday morning to sit waiting for the tickets to go on sale at 9am … I suggest 9am.

MsCheekyUK however is never pleased and feels that the band should rearrange their tour to fit in with her diary, Tweeting: ‘Damn you #TakeThat! You should be in London on my birthday, not Glasgow! Glad there are 4 London dates.’

Although JamieRealRadio isn’t so pleased, stating: ‘Not sure i’ve ever seen such a dull news conference. painful.’ … well Jamie, maybe you shouldn’t watch rolling news if that’s not your bag …

Apparently the band have been playing popular iPhone phenomenon Angry Birds during the announcement … I wonder if that will form part of the stadium show?

Oh go on then … as a public service … here’s the tour dates, they’re all for 2011:

May 30 – Sunderland, Stadium of Light

June 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 – Manchester, City of Manchester Stadium

June 14 – Cardiff, Millenium Stadium

June 18 – Dublin, Croke Park

June 22, 23 – Glasgow, Hampden Park

June 27 – Birmingham, Villa Park

July 1, 2, 3, 5 – London, Wembley Stadium
