There was a mass Twitter outpouring today after it was reported that Rupert Murdoch’s BSkyB is fighting a legal battle with the Internet telecommunications brand Skype over the use of the word ‘Sky’ in its name.
Rupert Murdoch’s name has been trending high across the world all day and reached the top spot in the UK … and let’s just say the Twitter world hasn’t been one hundred per cent supportive of the media mogul.
Gospain said, “ After the #paywall, Rupert Murdoch continues to lose his grip on reality” and RyanJL chips in with, “I was about to say how blue the thing above us is but then remembered that Rupert Murdoch might try and sue me for saying it” and seemaface says, “Rupert Murdoch you have the Sky and Sun but can never own Space…Richard Branson has got that covered.” Good point.
Odellandy continues, “Next will Rupert Murdoch sue Sky airlines all the Skydivers every house that has Skylights and all the skywalks around the world.. any more?” before duckorange comes in with a cracker, “Rupert Murdoch to sue Murdock from the A-Team over a crime he didn’t commit.”
So, I think it’s fair to say Mr Murdoch’s not making a great deal of Twitter friends today, although I’m sure he doesn’t care, he doesn’t own Twitter … does he?
The other big trend this lunchtime is Pretty Little Liars, an ABC family TV show based on novels by Sara Shepard, which appears to have wrapped up series one on US TV … no I don’t know why it’s treding in the UK either?
Well, I don’t decide what the content of the column is, so I’m dutifully bound to report a massive retweet of this message from ChazSom3rs, who I’m told is a friend of Justin Bieber’s with 110,000 Twitter followers … oh well, he says, “Watching Pretty Little Liars with @Godsgirl8494 … UGHH! HML..” and that seems to be enough to get the topic trending.
XoBrittD adds, “No more pretty little liars till 2011. I might die.” I doubt it, but who knows what’s around the corner, eh?
Other top trends today so far include, the ever-present Katy Perry, Arcade Fire (again) and Scott Pilgrim …
hold on tight, the news will start again in September …
